The most important Syriac Orthodox centre in Tur Abdin is the monastery of Dayro d-Mor Hananyo, 6 km south east of Mardin, in the west of the region.

'Tur Abdin' is from the Syriac language meaning 'mountain of the servants (of God)'. The Assyrian/Syriac people of Tur Abdin call themselves Suroye and Suryoye and traditionally speak an Aramaic dialect called Turoyo.

Mormonizmus - Isten bárányai (nem birkái!)

A kifejezés elsősorban Az Utolsó Napok Szentjeinek Jézus Krisztus Egyházára, annak tagjaira vagy kultúrájára utal, azonban tágabb értelemben használatos a kisebb mormon felekezetek megnevezésére is. A mormonizmus azt tartja magáról, hogy azt az egyházat állítja vissza, melyet Krisztus eredetileg alapított földi életében és amely később elveszett a földről.

Lemondva a lényegről

Miután a legnagyobb mormon felekezet, Az Utolsó Napok Szentjeinek Jézus Krisztus Egyháza lemondott a XIX. sz. végén többnejűség és egyéb tanokról, több egyháztag kiszakadt az egyházból, önálló felekezeteket alakítva, ezeket gyüjtőnéven mormon fundamentalisták név alatt szokás emlegetni.

A mormon könyve -kritika

A Mormon könyve a mormonizmus egyik szent irata, amit Joseph Smith publikált 1830-ban, Palmyrában. Megjelenése óta heves viták kereszttüzében áll, aminek alapvető oka, hogy Smith állítása szerint a könyvet nem ő maga írta (nem személyesen ő kapta a benne foglalt vallási kinyilatkoztatásokat), hanem egy - mindmáig ismeretlen - Kr. e. 2200 és Kr.u. 421 között íródott eredetiből fordította.

A misnai héber nyelv szintén jelentős eltéréseket mutat a klasszikus héber nyelvtől. Az intertestamentális kor zsidó irodalma nem csak héberül, hanem arámi nyelven is íródott. Erre vonatkozóan Smith semmilyen megállapítást nem tett (nem tisztázott, hogy az eredeti - állítása szerint egyébként egyiptomi eredetű jelekkel rögzített - szöveg arámi vagy héber nyelvű volt-e, ha pedig héber, akkor ószövetségi vagy misnai héber).

Az azték-héber kapcsolatokra talált szómegfelelések nyelvészetileg nem állnak meg, mivel ezekben a vizsgálatokban a mormon kutatók nem az alapnyelvi réteget vetették össze következetesen. Már a két nyelv alapkaraktere is élesen különbözik, amennyiben az azték egy erősen agglutináló (bekebelező) nyelv (amelynek több mint húsz változatát beszélik, többnyire kétnyelvű beszélők), a héber pedig flektáló sémi nyelv.

1827 szeptemberében a New York állambéli Manchester melletti egyik dombon Moroni átnyújt Smithnek egy rakat aranytáblát, amelyen "reformált egyiptomi írással" maga a szent szöveg található. Mivel Joe elég gyatrán állt a hieroglifák olvasásához szükséges kompetenciákkal, a készséges Moroni egyfajta korabeli fordítóberendezéssel is ellátja (ezt két kődarab volt hivatott jelképezni).

Joe máskülönben igazi fegyveres mormonőrséget is szervezett magának (ez volt a Nauvoo Légió), melynek természetesen ő volt a vezénylő tábornoka. A katonái sem tudták azonban megmenteni az életét, amikor 1844-ben többnejűségért és alkotmányellenes felforgató tevékenységért letartóztatják (függetlenként jelöltette magát az elnökválasztáson is), majd egy - azóta sem teljesen tisztázott hátterű - dulakodásban agyonlövik. Van, aki szerint a szabadkőművesek tették el láb alól, mint nemkívánt konkurenciát.

A gyülekezet hite

Azt akarják, hogy add fel addigi életed és hited, csatlakozz hozzájuk, ismerd el törvényeiket és hierarchiájukat, no és (abszolút nem utolsósorban) mindenkori nettó jövedelmed tíz százalékát csengesd be a pártkasszába, úristen, miket beszélek: szóval az egyházi számlára.

A kőműves

Joseph Smith 1842 márciusában csatlakozott az egyik Illinois-i maszonikus páholyhoz. Ott szorgalmasan magába szívott mindenféle spirituális üzemanyagot, mert alig három hónappal később letette az asztalra a ME egyik legfontosabb liturgiájának forgatókönyvét, a Temple Endowment Ceremony-t, amelyben számtalan, szabadkőműves ihletésű szimbólum is fellelhető. Egészen 1990-ig a mormon istentiszteletek nélkülözhetetlen kelléke volt például a körző és a derékszögű vonalzó, valamint a kötény.

Joseph Smith azt állította, hogy a mormonok által gyakorolt rituálékat először a bibliai Salamon király templomában használták, ahol később a szabadkőművesek elsajátították azokat. Az idők során azonban bizonyos részek kimaradtak, mások módosultak s így a mormonok létrejöttekor csak nyomai maradtak fenn az eredeti rendszernek. Mint már utaltunk rá, a mormonok magukat tartják a kereszténység igazi letéteményeseinek és hitük szerint az ő rituáléik felelnek meg az eredeti kereszténységnek.

Mint látjuk a görögöknél a PORTa nem kikötő, hanem KAPU. Kapu a "puli" is, ami máshol "szőr", valamint a "tura" is, amely a magyaroknál, spanyoloknál csak folyónév és átok.

It was the end of the fifteen-century that the Turi tribe first came into prominence. They wandered in nomadic fashion till they came to Ariob in Afghanistan, the adjacent area at the top of the valley and they established their summer headquarters and in the winter took their flocks down as for as the river Indus. From Nilab, on the bank of Indus River near Attack, the tribe appears to have annually immigrated during the hot weather to the Kurram Valley, then owned by the Bangash. In his dairy of the 1506 A.D. the Emperor Babur mentions the presence of Turis in the Kurram valley.

Thus the Medina in the Isle of Wight was once called the Mede, and the Shannon of Ireland stands in Ptolemy as the Senus. On the other hand cases are more frequent in which the ending has been dropped. Thus the Yare is called by Ptolemy the Garrhuenus, i.e., the Garron or Yarron. And the Teme appears in Anglo-Saxon charters as the Taméde or Teméde. Indeed the Thames itself would almost seem, by having become a monosyllable, to have taken the first step of a change which has been arrested for ever. So in Germany the Bille, Ohm, Orre, and Bordau, appear in charters of the 8th and 9th cent., as the Bilena, Amana, Oorana, and Bordine. Another Celtic word for water is dur, which, however, seems more common in the names of towns (situated upon waters) than in the names of rivers. Is this word formed by syncope from the last, as duber = dur? Or is it directly from the root of the Sansc. drâ or dur, to move?

In the glosses of an anonimous scholiast added to the Notitiae Episcopatuum composed between 733-746, we find the river name on the Crimean peninsula: χαρα σιου (translated as µαυρον νεγόν 'black water').
